Ghetto Rake

This week was pretty good! A few notable things but overall mellow week.

Tuesday we went out with Brother Dan who is an awesome ward missionary. We went out and tried to hunt down some names we hadn't been able to see. Not to much luck but it was fun! One thing that was a bit of a bummer was going into Tuesday we had 5 appointments set up. Which was awesome! And we were so excited! But then 4 of them fell through. The one we had remaining went really well! It was with an investigator we had been having trouble contacting and we finally got an appointment set up. When we got there we intended to teach the restoration and just see what she remembered from it, but the lesson derailed a little bit. Totally in a good way though. She had concerns about prayer. She felt like she was t getting answered. We just happened to have our ward mission leader with us who encouraged her to read the scriptures more and we promised that if she did, she would start receiving answers. Then, we read some scripture with her and she said she would read the Book of Mormon more! It was awesome.

Wednesday was good too! We had some iffy finding plans for the day but there was a member who needed help taking metal to the scrapyard. We had helped him before with the same thing and it was pretty fun! But we weren't able to get a hold of him so we though we would see if he was home. And he was! He said he was just fixin' to call us too so it was perfect timing and we went to the scrapyard with him and got some lunch and it was pretty fun! Wednesday night we got to play some basketball and there were a lot of nonmembers there so we got to talk to them which was pretty fun! They are always really confused when we introduce ourselves as the Elders but when we explain it, it is a great way to start talking about the gospel! So that is always good.

Thursday was pretty awesome too! We went to Mepkin in the morning and did service again. While we were there we saw a gator!  And luckily we brought our cameras so we took some pics of it and pics of the scenery. I'm the afternoon we went to visit with a less active member we have been working with and we had gotten permission from the bishop to invite him to bless the sacrament. We brought a member with us who is good friends with him and talked about the priesthood, then extended the invitation! And he said yes! So exciting!!!!! Then usually on Thursday's we have Book of Mormon class. But it was cancelled tonight at the last minute. And we didn't have plans. But! Luckily, one of our neighbors who spans met with before, invited us over for dinner! He isn't a member but we both got a distinct impression not to push any gospel conversation, and before we left to invite him to take a church tour. So that's what we did and it went really well and we got a church tour set up! Which I think will be awesome. I've offered like 100 but this is the first time someone has said yes! I'm pumped.

Friday was pretty fun! We had apartment inspections in the morning and we passed (#miracles). Then in the afternoon we had zone conference which was really good!! We got to see president and Sister Turner, as well as the zone leaders, and the assistants which is always awesome. Plus, the trainings were super uplifting and helpful. We came back ready to go! On top of that, there was a youth baptism with some awesome members on Friday night and it was so awesome to see!  Saturday we started off with some service which was awesome. We were raking a less active member's yard with the sisters and we were short on rakes. But no fear, I made a pretty ghetto looking rake out of an old rusted rake head and a piece of a pipe that was laying around haha. Regretfully, I did not take a picture of it.

Then most of Saturday afternoon was spent planning which was pretty good! Saturday night we set out to see some for,we investigators. There was one house where a guy came outside with a big pistol and said apologized but said he was weary of people knocking so late. It was like 7:30 haha. But he was super nice and we got to talk to him for a minute which was fun.

Cheesy Grits

Sunday was awesome as always. We got to partake of the sacrament and promise to  try and be a little better this week. Sunday evening we went out and tried to visit with an investigator and we did! But man, can southern folk talk. We were there for a while haha. And to round out our week, we made grits for dinner! Delicious as always. I love you all and miss you so much!!! Have a great week!

Never tell me the odds

This week was pretty good! Monday the Georgetown elders came down for the last P-Day of the transfer which was pretty fun! We played some basketball and talked for a little which was pretty fun. Then Tuesday Elder Anderson packed and we saw a few people for him to say goodbye too which was fun but a little sad. Then Wednesday was the fateful day of transfers. I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to serve with elder Anderson! He is an awesome guy and I do miss him! But I got my new companion, Elder Griffiths! He is awesome. He has been out one transfer shorter than me so about 6 months now. And he is really excited to work! Which is good because I love to work. He is from Parowan, Utah and is a super awesome guy.

After transfers we went to Cracker Barrel with some members and the sisters on the way home which is Moncks Corner tradition, so that was pretty fun. After we got settled in a little we went out teaching with one of the Ward missionaries which was awesome. Sadly we didn't get to see to many people, but it helped get Elder Griffiths introduced to the area a little so that is good! After that we had basketball which was fun as always. And we got to talk with some of the non members that come so that was great! Thursday was pretty good! We went and did some service at Mepkin. If you haven't noticed a pattern, we go there very Thursday haha. And it is really fun! The people are nice and we the scenery is magnificent so it is always a pleasure to be there.

After Mepkin we went with Brother Brown to paint his trailer which was fun! We painted the ceiling which was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be! Then we went back to the apartment for dinner. And after dinner we went to Book of Mormon class which was fun as always. I love reading the Book of Mormon. It is so uplifting and edifying every time. Friday was awesome! We left the apartment at 10 after some great studies. It is such a blessing to be able to start off the day with scripture study. It helps me to become more converted each day to the gospel and prepares me more to share it. When we left we went to see a bunch of current and former investigators as well as some less actives. There has been a flu bug going around and sadly most of the people we tried to see had it. So we weren't able to really talk with to many people. But I'm the afternoon we had a great weekly planning session and talked about what our goals our for the transfer and that was awesome.

Then Saturday and Sunday were both stale conference which was pretty great. We were in meetings starting at 4 Saturday and got home around 930. And the meetings were great! I just can't focus for that long haha. And then Sunday was the main session which was amazing. President and Sister Turner were there and got to bear their testimonies which was great. And for the closing song we did something way cool. There was a stake youth choir there and they sang the army of helaman/ sister in Zion medley. But during the interlude before the men's part, all the missionaries serving in the Charleston stake (I think there were about 34 of us) stood up from the congregation and lined the aisles in between the pews and we joined in singing the second half of the song. It was super cool and really good. While we were singing we looked up on the stand and saw that President and Sister Turner were both crying pretty heavily. And it made most of us tear up. It was amazing and the Spirit was so strong. And afterwards we were talking to Elder Jacobsen and he was pretty watery eyed. He has been out about 20 months or so I think and he looked at me and just said "it goes by to fast. Enjoy every second of it." And time does fly! And the experiences are amazing. I love you all and miss you so much!! Have an amazing week!!
